"I’ve been to quite a few different places, mostly to work or for a relaxing trip away. My most recent trip to Lisbon was one of my more adventurous visits as there’s so much to explore. One of my favourite things about Lisbon is the architecture. There are a lot of places in the city that have a very old-world vibe about them which makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time! The most iconic is the Praça do Comércio which looks out onto the Tagus River. This is a must see if you’re visiting Lisbon, not only is it beautiful to look at, but there is such an interesting history behind it. Whilst I was in Lisbon, I was lucky enough to see the Lisbon Sardine Festival, otherwise known as the Feast of St Anthony.
Working in the industry, I always see and hear about different local festivals and I’ve always wanted to go to one. I can tell you that actually being there is 100 times better than reading about it online or in a brochure! The festival really brings the whole community together and you can definitely see that over its duration. Throughout the streets there are lights and paper lanterns decorating the balconies and there’s an amazing parade along Avenida de Liberdade. It really is a sight you can’t miss, it feels as though a giant colour bomb has exploded over the streets of Lisbon! If you’re thinking of going to Portugal, I’d definitely recommend planning your trip around the festival, you won’t regret it!"
