From the beginning of time
So where did it all begin? Mythological claims that Hercules founded the city 400 years before building Rome. Contrary stories state that it was inhabited by the Roman Empire as early as 218 BC.
A building site
Rome wasn’t built in a day and apparently Barcelona wasn’t either! La Sagrada Familia, has been under construction since 1882, and is anticipated to be finished in 2026. Almost 200 years in construction, that is longer than it took to build the pyramids!
Step aside Paris
Paris and Barcelona have a lot more in common than you think. Barcelona was the original location for the Eiffel Tower. However, it was deemed too “unsightly” for the city, and engineer Gustave Eiffel had to pitch the idea elsewhere.
Portal del Angel, the shopping hub of Barcelona, is the most crowded street in all of Spain. Reportedly 3,500 pedestrians walk this street every hour.
Lost in love
In Barcelona, valentine’s day falls on April 23rd. Tradition states that a man should buy a woman a rose and in return she gifts him a book. Around 800,000 books and 4 million roses are purchased on this day from the thousands of stands that are set up for this occasion.
